Four members of the Green Team travelled to the REfUSE café in Chester-le-Street to celebrate their involvement in the Eat Smart project earlier this year. They enjoyed a morning making smoothies and badges, planting their own pea shoots and meeting children from other schools who had also participated in the project. The children also made a very passionate and impressive presentation to the other school groups and café staff about our experience of Eat Smart. While we were there, we were thrilled to be presented with the ‘Best Reduction in Plate Waste’ award – testament to the hard work of all the children across school who had taken on board the message about food waste and cut down the amount of lunch they were throwing away. We managed to cut plate waste by a massive 28.5% - far more than any other school! Thank you so much to everybody for thinking about this important issue, and particularly to the Green Team who have worked incredibly hard this year on a number of projects, often in their own break and lunchtimes. You have been a pleasure to work with!
